Raf Simons new designer for Dior, moi j’adore!

Raf Simons is 43 and he’s a Belgian fashion designer. He studied furniture design and exposed to the work of international designers, he started to work with Walter Van Beirendonck in Paris as a fashion designer.

While everybody is betting for him to be the next Dior designer, Raf has refused to comment on rumours.

Unconfirmed reports that Raf is finalising the contract for his new position have been circulating since last December, with numerous fashion insiders wading in on the debate over his suitability.

“I have nothing to say,” the Belgian creative told press at his Jil Sander menswear show.

Since Galliano’s sacking last year, a number of big names, such as Marc Jacobs, have been in the running. Other people to be linked to the coveted role include Alexander Wang and Jason Wu.

We might have the answer in a couple of weeks….

Best paid top models of the world

Bethann Hardison  “The model has become a hanger.”

We considered them old-fashioned, dumped after their 25th anniversary. On the contrary, the top models are still trendy and stylish attracting very appealing and lucrative contracts.

Here are the best paid top models of the world, and seemingly Gisele Bündchen is the highest paid model with an estimated fortune of $150 million, so unfair! I am 30 year old and I do not earned half of what she does.

To be honest, I am kind of surprised not seeing Tyra Banks as she makes a lot of money with her American next top model show. Anyway here are the most successful “hangers” of the industry.

  1. Gisele Bündchen, 30, she has been the highest-paid model in the world and the sixteenth richest woman in the entertainment industry since 2004. With an estimated $150 million fortune, she has just launched her own lingerie brand Gisele Bündchen Brazilian Intimates.
  2. Heidi Klum, 37, model, actress, television host, businesswoman, fashion designer, television producer and occasional singer.  Busy girl!
  3. Kate Moss,  37, model, actress, fashion designer for our British TopShop.
  4. Adriana Lima,  29, is a Brazilian model, best known as a Victoria’s Secret Angel since 2000, and as a spokesmodel for Maybelline cosmetics from 2003 to 2009.
  5. Alessandra  Ambrósio is a Brazilian model. Described by Tyra Banks as “the future of  the modeling world”, Ambrosio is best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret and  was chosen as the first spokesmodel for the company’s “PINK” line. Ambrosio is currently one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels and the former face of the UK company Next. She appeared in advertisements for brands like Revlon, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, and Ralph Lauren, as well as the Pirelli Calendar. She has walked the catwalks for designers such as Prada, Chanel, and Oscar de la Renta. She has appeared in numerous international magazine covers, including Cosmopolitan, Elle, GQ, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Ocean Drive, Vogue and the only model to appear on the cover of Glamour in the United States in 2006.

Lady Gaga for Gaultier

TF6, French cable channel, will propose an exclusive documentary by Gaultier.

To trust the trailer below, Lady Gaga is again going to create a scandal because we can see her dressed in nun being spanked the priest Gaultier. I do not really understand the point of doing  this (ok, they are so called artists and might have found some controversial inspiration in Catholicism) but I believe we need to see the entire documentary to get it.

And guess what? Catholic church and religious groups have already expressed their outrage. Oh la la, lady gaga!

Will Prabal Gurung replace Galliano at Dior?

Oh la la!!!  Christian Dior (LVMH group)  is looking at nine possible candidates to replace John Galliano.

Designer Prabal Gurung is said to be a frontrunner.

Bernard Arnault, LVMH’s  CEO, has insisted that Dior is in no hurry to name Galliano’s successor, but his advisers have reportedly submitted a list of suggested candidates: Riccardo Tisci, Tom Ford, Hedi Slimane, Olivier Theyskens, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Alber Elbaz, Haider Ackermann, Prabal Gurung, and Sarah Burton.

But who is Prabal Gurung?

Prabal Gurung launched his first eponymous collection during New York Fashion Week in February 2009 with a presentation at the FLAG Art Foundation in Chelsea. For Fall 2010, he staged his first runway show in the Tents at Bryant Park.

Gurung was born in Singapore and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was in New Delhi, India that his design career truly began. While studying at New Delhi’s National Institute of Fashion Technology, he apprenticed at several local production and fashion houses and designed with Manish Arora.

In Melbourne and London Gurung assisted stylists for fashion shows and international publications. In 1999 Gurung moved to New York City where he interned for Donna Karan while attending Parsons School of Design. In his first year he was awarded the “Best Designer” title at the annual Parsons/FIT design competition. After Parsons, Gurung spent two years with Cynthia Rowley’s design team. Soon after, he became the design director at Bill Blass. Following five successful years at Blass, Gurung launched his own collection PRABAL GURUNG. In 2010 he was the recipient of the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award and received a nomination for the 2010 CFDA Swarovski Womenswear Award.

This information hasn’t been confirmed yet but Fashion magazine Elle reported that Dior might not announce Galliano’s replacement before the autumn. We will have to wait 😦

Have a look at his fantastic creations:

Inspiration Dior, Fashion as Art

On February 12, 1947, Christian Dior presented his first collection on Avenue Montaigne. The revolution is underway and the new look is born. Unknown until that moment, the genius designer, who revered the French way of life entered a triumphant decade, providing women with a sublime look.
In this major exhibition ” Inspiration Dior,” the Pushkin Museum showcases Dior magic and luxury while emphasizing the outstanding house’s links with art. The key themes of the Dior legend – past and present – are presented on a grand scale in original fashion, set against unique works of art.

The new look is echoed in works by Picasso, Modigliani, Renoir, Cezanne and Gauguin. Nudes by Vanessa Beecroft, Maurizio Cattelan  and Orlan emphasize the modern lines of the female body, accentuated by Christian Dior.

Inspiration Dior is an enchanting waltz through time with lush gardens and recollections of the 18th century and the Belle Epoque, Marie-Antoinette meets Jeff Koons. Bonnard’s landscapes celebrates Dior’s flower-women. This exhibition takes the visitor in a fabulous journey around the world, Spain via Goya, heady Orient via Matisse and of course Russia and Asia.

La Balmania

Balmain has announced Balmania’s new successor:  Christophe Decarnin’s deputy  & unknown handsome man Olivier Rouesting.

Olivier will manage the design and development of the brand’s men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections.

Who is that man?

Olivier Rousteing completed his fashion studies at the well-known fashion school ESMOD ( École Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode) in Paris in 2003. Rousteing has worked under Decarnin at Balmain for the past three years after spending five years at Roberto Cavalli, where he designed both the women’s and men’s ranges.

Decarnin will no doubt be a challenging act to follow but hopefully, Olivier will continue with the same sexy, rock’n’roll  and trendy vision that we all like in Balmain’s collections.
